BP selling Pittsburgh-area gas stations to franchisees
Associated Press
PITTSBURGH (AP) — BP America is selling 49 Pittsburgh-area service stations and convenience store sites, most of them to franchisees.
The stations will be sold through a sealed bid auction run by NRC Realty Advisors of Chicago, the company said.
Eight of the stations are being sold as land suitable for development, but 41 will continue to carry the BP name.
"This is part of our overall growth strategy," said BP spokeswoman Valerie Corr. "Essentially by selling to franchisees, they can take the stations and grow."
Thirty-four of the 41 stations that will remain under the BP brand will be sold as franchises. The other seven will be dealer-owned and operated.
