Thursday, April 25, 2013 - A local gas station that's been closed for several years is one of 108 commercial properties being offered for sealed bids.

The former Gant Oil Co. service station, located at 1102 S. Fayetteville St., is among 40 gasoline stations and 68 commercial properties throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states being offered for divestiture, with a July 10 deadline for sealed bids. Getty Realty, the nation's largest publicly-traded real estate firm specializing in convenience store/gas station properties, has been retained by NRC Realty & Capital Advisors to conduct the divestiture.

The Asheboro station has approximately 1,100 square feet of store space on the 23,000-square-foot property at the corner with Taft Street. The location also has auto wash bays and several gasoline pumps under canopies.

According to a press release by NRC, property viewings will be coordinated during the month of May, with dates and times listed on the web site. Broker cooperation is encouraged and a 3 percent broker co-op commission is being offered. Interested parties can call the NRC Customer Service Center at 800-747-3342, Ext. 1304, in addition to logging on to the website.

The press release quotes Evan Gladstone, NRC's executive managing director: "These sites are very attractive for a variety of gasoline, automotive, retail and commercial uses. The majority are located on high-traffic corners in mature neighborhoods and in small towns. ..."

According to the Randolph County GIS site, the property is now owned by Getty NC Leasing, Inc. The 1998 Asheboro City Directory says that Gant Oll Co. was first established in 1955.
